Day
12
- Developing
Your Friendship with God
You
can be as close to God as you choose to be. Unfortunately, that means if
you aren't very close to God, it's because you don't care enough to do
it. God wants to get close to you and is willing to do whatever it takes
on his end. We just have to be willing to try on our side. In order to
get closer to him, we have to make some choices.
I
must choose to be honest with God. God already knows what is going on in
our lives and in our hearts. When we don't admit how we feel or what we
are doing, then we don't get very close to God. God wants us to let him
know just how we feel about things.
I
must choose to obey God. If we really want to get closer to God, we'll
do what he asks and not put it off. By refusing to do what he asks or
trying to say we'll do it later, we are saying that something else is
more important than God. God wants what is best for us, so by not doing
it we are hurting ourselves, even if we don't understand it. One thing
that is very important to God is telling others about him. When we
don't, we are telling God he isn't important to us. It's that simple. If
we want to get close to God, we'll do it.
I
must want friendship with God more than anything else. More than
worrying about what others will think or say. More than money. More than
anything. If I really want to get close to God, I have to realize that
nothing else is more important than this. It will be hard at times, but
it will always be worth it.
There
is nothing more important to our lives than God. Every day we make
choices to get closer to him or ignore him. God tells us in the Bible
that he gets very offended by people who tell him they want a friendship
with him, but then won't do what it takes. ["I know you inside and
out, and find little to my liking. You’re not cold, you’re not
hot-far better to be either cold or hot! You’re stale. You’re
stagnant. You make me want to vomit." -Revelation 3.16 (the
Message)] He knows that if it matters to us we'll do it, and he knows
that if we don't do it, we don't care. No excuses.
Thinking
about my purpose:
Know.
I'm as close to God as I choose to be.
Remember.
" Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." -James
4.8a (NLT)
Think
about it.
What do I need to do to get closer to God that I will do every day?
